LOVE Friday! Be Free!

November 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

For some reason, my motivation has been a little off lately. Maybe it’s moving into my new condo, the rainy/black weather, being sick, but generally I can be hit with a crazy amount of stress and be a little energizer nelly. I’m choosing to ignore the source and get to the solution! What can I Keep reading →

The Purse Switcharoo

November 3, 2009 · 2 Comments

Many ask me how I am able to change my purse almost everyday. I have to. I get depressed if I don’t. Women seem paralyzed by the thought of moving their belongings from one vessel to another. It can be an inspiring! It can be a confidence boosting! The act of refreshing your main accessory at least a Keep reading →

Personal Logo

November 2, 2009 · 7 Comments

In the past 6 months, I believe I have attended 3 events with the main topic being personal branding. (One of them is recapped in a previous blog post “I Accidentally Wore Flats to ‘Networking in Stilettos.’”)

Because of our personalities, we all brand ourselves in some way. We define who we are naturally by how we hope others will identify us. Personal branding is intentionally defining the person we want others to experience when they hear our name or see our picture.

I’m still working on my intentional messaging, but have accomplished my first step in establishing a personal brand – a logo.

this one copyWhat do you think? Would love some feedback.

_______

Send me your personal logo! I want examples to inspire others. Here’s what I have received so far.

Article: The Female Economy

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I attended Temple University’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference this morning and heard a striking statistic. US law schools are seeing 50% of their classes consisting women, but female partners at law firms is at only 19%. This is most likely due to the time-lapse of graduating classes. I am more interested to observe if that 19% will change and, if so, how quickly. This article is just a quick snippet of women’s influence in these economic times. Enjoy.

Article by Michael J. Silverstein and Kate Sayre from the Harvard Business Review.

As a market, women represent a bigger opportunity than China and India combined. So why are companies doing such a poor job of serving them?

Women now drive the world economy.

Globally, they control about $20 trillion in annual consumer spending, and that figure could climb as high as $28 trillion in the next five years. Their $13 trillion in total yearly earnings could reach $18 trillion in the same period. In aggregate, women represent a growth market bigger than Keep reading →

New Link: a.placebetween.us Solves a HUGE Problem!

May 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was in a rut. Choosing city spots to meet clients for coffee or lunch generallya.placebetween.usconsisted of me frequenting the same places that are (inconvenient for them) close to my office. No longer! A.placebetween.us totally solves the “where should we meet issue” by suggesting places in between addresses AND it works anywhere in the US. Here’s the deal.

  1. Input your address.
  2. Input your client/friend’s address.
  3. Choose the category ie coffee, pizza, shopping, etc.
  4. Through google maps, choose the place that sounds good for you.

So simple, yet soooo useful. Hopefully, this makes clients meetings a little easier for the girl on the go. Find it in the links on the right side under “business” or “young professional.”

Happy Networking.

I Accidentally Wore Flats to “Networking in Stilettos”

May 11, 2009 · 2 Comments

StilettoWhen Neen James said the word “TeleCoffee,” I thought, what have I gotten myself into? Is this going to be another event that I go home feeling like I would have been more inspired by the Biggest Loser than the lessons of the event?

No! This small, spunky, bling-a-riffic Aussie won me over by the end of the evening. Whether you are in the corporate world or own your own business, networking is an essential skill for every business woman. Mrs. James shares how to “Network in Stilettos” at any stage of a career. As a successful speaker and author, she shared with the Ladies Who Launch group tips from business card etiquette to proper conversational flow.

The best and most eye opening tip was the telecoffee. A telecoffee is when two people grab a coffee at their desk and talk on the telephone (she said it as a Keep reading →

Applause for Our First Guest Columnist!

May 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Growing Pains.

The economic crisis has started to trigger the realization of our country’s identity crisis. As a nation of consumers we have valued things and made it our business to own. If our country is to be a player in the global scene it can no longer be the world’s giggling teenager hiding behind a façade of materialism for lack of knowing its true identity. This worked for a good while, but it is time to grow up. We must recognize we are part of a global community and must decide on our place in it.

American DreamAs America grapples with its own identity crisis I struggle with my own. I am a young professional who wants a good life, but has no idea what a good life is these days. With the disappearance of the standard American Dream – we all know this one, the picket fences in the suburbs, the smiling faces of mothers with their wavy bobbed hair standing on perfectly manicured lawns or the tale of Great Gatsby – I am at a loss for what to aspire to. A-List: Sporty Flats for Work and Brunch

May 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

ouch-plasters-sSummer is coming and the worst feeling is swollen achy feet after a walk to work in those cute summer heels. The challenge is finding flats that will fit in your Marc Jacobs satchel while not squishing your Kate Spade planner. (You did give up lunch for a month to pay for the tote of your dreams. Keep it nice!) Save your pinky toe and sport these cute (and super comfy) walk worthy flats. They will even serve double duty for your Sunday morning brunch ensemble.

eva-purple-thumb1. RedFoot’s Eva Purple – Leave it to the Brits! These Thumleina-ish beauties have a split sole and come with a little purse to tuck away during the 9 to 5. Pearliest of purple satin and organza bow make for the cutest ballet flats at $49. Check it.puma

2. Puma’s Sabadella – Who said sequins were for the club. Toss a little spangle in your step with Puma’s cutest flat yet. They come in all colors (I have the pink ones) and can be worn with jeans, yoga pants, or t-shirt dresses. Best of all, they are machine washable (I’ve done it!) and come out looking brand new. Nordy’s has for $69, but search for them elsewhere like Zappos, Amazon, or Shoebuy. Check it. american-eagle

3. American Eagle Breezy Jogger – Some like it a little more sporty. The Payless wonders are cute and inexpensive with a touch of class. Best to check out your local store, but they are available online for $24.99. Check it.

4. Signature by SHI Tada – Another versatile flat that can be a little sporty and explosively chic. Loving the bad-ass ballet toe and for $49.99, wear them at lunch and at brunch. Check it.

5. Zhandrina FD1 – You know by I love metallic, but I also love basics. Is there such a thing as basic metallic? If so, this is it. These flats are sleek and stylish for $90. Check it.

A good pair of sporty flats is essential. The more unique to your style, the better. Hopefully, this A-List inspires you to save your toes and look cute while you are doing it. Happy Shopping!
