In the past 6 months, I believe I have attended 3 events with the main topic being personal branding. (One of them is recapped in a previous blog post “I Accidentally Wore Flats to ‘Networking in Stilettos.’”)
Because of our personalities, we all brand ourselves in some way. We define who we are naturally by how we hope others will identify us. Personal branding is intentionally defining the person we want others to experience when they hear our name or see our picture.
I’m still working on my intentional messaging, but have accomplished my first step in establishing a personal brand – a logo.
What do you think? Would love some feedback.

Hi Nelly!
I love this topic…and I love your logo! Congrats on taking “the first step.” I do have some feedback for you (of course, as this IS my life calling):
- The colors don’t seem to suit you. Every time I see you, you’re dressed in either rich, jewel tones (which I LOVE), or bright and vibrant primaries… The forest and khaki feel too earthy for you.
- Here’s just a novel idea: If you’d like to keep in the 3″ realm, perhaps changing the three dots to one larger triangle and one smaller square might be fun (a-la your footprint when you’re sporting those stilettos)!
Anyway, I love it!

That’s such an intuitive point about the colors. You are the second person that has mentioned jewel tones. Coincidentally, I’m wearing a deep magenta silk top today. So glad I make a fashionable impression!
Haha. LOVE the stiletto reference via shape. You are a professional! I’ll have to sleep on it. Thank you so much for the comments. This is GREAT feedback.
Yours,
-Nell

I love this topic, too, and often hear the argument that individuals don’t need brands. I (obviously) disagree wholeheartedly. What better way to make yourself stand out — in jobs, in blogs, in life — than by picking a personal brand and sticking to it?

Hey Nell,
I’m so glad I found this blog. I love branding, especially personal branding, and while I’m still figuring out my own “brand” (senior year of college right now), I have always used specific colors on my website, blog, etc. Pink especially. The “A” and “whoaitsaimz” on my blog are my signature styles, and I carry them with me throughout my social networks. So glad to see someone blogging about this type of stuff! I will definitely be recommending it to my friends.
PS – My “logo” is here, but it’s more of an icon/element that gets incorporated into things rather than a standalone item: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd262/whoaitsaimz/WhoaStorage/A_huge_jpg-1.jpg

Hi Amy! So impressed with your blog and the A is such a bold statement. Love it! Truly enjoyed your posts about Rome. Congrats to you on your senior year. Savor this time of endless choices.
All the best.
Nell

Hi! We were looking at your blog at work…sort of using it as a model. We are pretty lacking in social media skills. Would you be willing to give us a consultation in setting up our social media page on our new website? We would compensate you. Let me know. Crumpet

Hi Crumpet
Thanks so much for reaching out and glad you are looking into new forms of media. Let’s talk offline about your needs.
